Lately whenever I am frustrated or despairing of human activity I picture us all as a big, unruly troop of chimpanzees.

that's about the best thing we do for each other.
combing through each other's fur, picking out the things that torment us, and eating them.
that's love.
That's much more generous than when I am despairing. I think of us all as a cancer sucking the life out of our mother.
But then, I've been known as the resident jaded fatalist for some time now.
I like your version better. Less depressing with some chaotic amusement rolled in.
