estrangement.

that's what i see in this wildly disturbing picture. a husband and wife- grown old and infirm- the husband howling his needs and tended to by others while the wife's still busy telling all the world that she's been treating badly. her lifetime of angers and hurts is the only thing she has to claim of indivduality as she sits in the anonymity of administrated elder healthcare.

look at the tightness of the locked jar- the stubbornness of one who's 'always been right' as opposed to the open-mouthed need of the old man crying out.

her red anger enflames and sets her apart, proclaims her life. goodness, this one's upsetting....

Karen-

I had seen them much more as together in their misery and isolation, but I see what you saw in this and it is chilling.

Thanks again, as always.

i forgot to mention that the old man in your picture reminds me of francis bacon's series of 'screaming pope' paintings.

they've always haunted me, and yours had much the same effect.-

"chilling" is a very good word to describe this.
the sepia tones are great and marked distance between the two sets up the piece and all in all, it's my favorite--even though it's "chilling". brrrrrr---

Karen-

Bacon is one of my very favorites, and you are spot on
with the similarity between them.

Jewel-

Glad you liked this.

thanks.

i've been meaning to ask where the bottom white margin is on this one- i think that handwritten title and signature really adds to your pics.
