i see this as a snapshot of life in the mid-sixties. (i'm looking at the hemlines here, which are creeping up)-- but it's before the moon landing, before the disillusionment of the latter part of that decade.

the angle of the falling toy capsule shows it not to be lying on the ground, but still free-falling--- still above their heads. they're probably not even aware it's about to land at their feet with all the symbolism of a new age-- a 'smaller world'. smaller universe.

but look at the pidgeon-toed stance, the knock knees. these girls represent all of innocence to me and totally oblivious to the changes about fall, as if out of the sky....

Thanks for your read on this. I always enjoy getting a different take. It's one of the things I like a lot about
working with these images- they are much more open
to multiple meanings and interpretations than my
poetry is. More universal, somehow.
