interesting comment on the interaction between artist and audience. and in particular here, between dj and her distanced view of self, who provides another audience altogether lol. j
I wanted to get at the brilliant and reflective, and yes, distanced Djuana, and I think this piece does in a small way. All the ornamentation, the flowers, stained glass lampshade, the funky bench, the closed sign, her goofing and mocking and sweet smile...hidden behind layers that you can see through....but still...mostly hidden.
These collages/portraits are amazing. I've already told you, haven't I, that I've been hesitating on sending you a photo because I'm scared of what will be revealed, exposed in the resulting collage. You have this way of nailing people that's....geez, Scott, eerie. Dead on. Every single collage/portrait has been so eye-opening that I feel that even though I felt as though I knew most of these folks to varying degrees thanks to their poetry and online friendship, in some ways, I don't know them at all. Your collages are all about that, about what is known and unknown.
I hope she's pleased. God, if this were me, if this were mine, I'd be pleased. It's....damn....it's good, Scott.
yep. the lady monkey-shining in the mirror surrounds herself with details that are so rich, so interwoven in and around the central character-- and i think of djuana's poetry in the same way: tapestries that so often reflect these glowing golden threads-- that are really slight glimpses of the lady herself, hiding inside them.
